What data is processed?
Locally on your device
This app stores all your categories, counters and entries on your device. None of this data is transmitted to us or to any third party — with one exception you trigger yourself: shared counters (see below).
Purchases
When you buy or restore the Pro version, the purchase is handled directly by Apple or Google. We never see your payment or address details — only whether you have unlocked Pro. Apple and Google act as independent controllers under the GDPR; their privacy notices are available in their respective stores.
Analytics and crash reports
This app sends no analytics data and no automated crash reports.
Support requests
If you send a message from the "Support" menu, the text of your message and a random, anonymous device identifier generated by the app are transmitted to our server at https://count.softwarea.de and stored there. The device identifier contains neither your name nor your email address; it exists only so that we can reply to your request inside the app. If you delete the app, the link between the identifier and the device can no longer be established on our side. You may request deletion of your support data at any time by emailing count@softwarea.de.
Contact form on the website
When you write to us via the contact form at https://count.softwarea.de/contact, your name, your email address, the text of your message and the language of the page are transmitted to our server at https://count.softwarea.de and stored there. We process this data solely in order to answer your enquiry (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, legitimate interest in responding to enquiries). Our answer goes to the email address you provided and contains a personal link where you can read the conversation so far and carry on writing. Anyone who knows that link can see the conversation, so please do not pass it on. We delete the conversation once your enquiry has been dealt with and we no longer need it. You can request deletion at any time by email to count@softwarea.de. Deleting the conversation also makes the link invalid.
Shared counters
When you share a counter, or join one somebody shared with you, the data of that one counter is transmitted to our server at https://count.softwarea.de and stored there so that the other participants can see it: its entries (value, time and, where the counter asks for one, the short comment), its name, colour and picture, the display name you give yourself on that counter, a profile picture if you choose one, and an anonymous device identifier used for notifications. Every other counter stays untouched on your device.
Who takes part is the counter owner's decision, made through the invite code. You may leave a shared counter at any time; the owner may delete it outright at any time, which removes it from our server and from every participant.
Retention: we keep a shared counter only as long as it is in use. If nobody on the counter has been in touch for six months, it is marked dormant — no new participants are admitted and everybody involved is notified. After a further 30 days of silence we delete the counter's contents (entries, names, pictures). An empty identifier remains for one year so that participants' devices can still learn that the counter is gone; after that it too is deleted. Any contact from a participant resets these periods.
Shared expense groups
When you share a group under "Tools", or join one, the data of that one group is transmitted to our server at https://count.softwarea.de and stored there so the other participants can see it: its name and colour, the names of the people in it, and every expense with its amount, date, purpose, kind, who paid it and who it was for. Along with the display name you join under, a profile picture of your choosing if you have set one, and an anonymous device identifier used for notifications. Groups you do not share stay untouched on your device.
Who takes part is decided by whoever owns the group, through the invite code and by letting people in. They also decide what each participant may do, whether that is reading along, recording their own expenses, or changing every expense. You can leave a shared group at any time; whoever owns it can stop sharing at any time, which makes it disappear from our server and from everybody else. On each person's own device it stays.
Importing data from other apps
When you upload an export from another app under "Import data", either in the app or at https://count.softwarea.de/import, that file is transmitted to our server at https://count.softwarea.de and stored there. An excerpt of it, namely the file name, the column headings and the first few rows, is sent to an AI service whose only job is to work out how the file is built. Converting the actual values is then done by our server itself, without any AI. At present this AI service runs on a machine we operate ourselves. Should we use an external provider for it, we will name them here.
The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you give by uploading. You may withdraw it at any time by cancelling the import.
Retention: the uploaded file is deleted as soon as the conversion is finished. The result is deleted as soon as your app has collected it, and after 48 hours at the latest. After that nothing of it remains on our server.
Your rights
You are entitled to information, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, objection to processing and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Because this app does not transmit any personal data to us, you can exercise your right to erasure at any time simply by uninstalling the app.
